Hi, I am back after a while on holyday, and also some days without connection to the www, some problems at the internet provider’s side, really annoying. We had a really nice trip going from 13 degrees Celsius and landed at night in around 30 degrees Celsius. I will try to give a little recap of the vacation here.

Already on the first night we went to a pub down the street from the hotel, the next day we decided we wanted to check out the pool, and had a really good time just relaxing at one of the hotels 3 pools. For diner we went to the hotel restaurant (not the best choice but we needed to start somewhere)… we had mousakka for diner this day and then we went to one of our 2 rooms and drank some beer.
We went for a stroll at the beach promenade, one of the things you would realize when at a holyday at a typical vacation location is that everything costs money, if we wanted to lay on a sun bed at any place along the beach we would have to pay for it, 2-5 Euros, extra if you want to use the parasol (that would stand beside the sun bed anyway)… Anyway we went along this not so sandy beach until we reached the port were fishermen and guides tried to get us to pay for trips with their boats, “I will show you how we use our harpoons to kill a shark”… We went past these and on the other side of the port we could finally get to a really long beach crowded with “vacationists” and locals, we had to walk past half the beach before we could find a spot for us to lay down. Topless girls, men playing some sort of ball game along the water edge (I had almost fallen asleep on my towel when one of these managed to hit the ball right onto my chest so I woke with a surprise, damn stupid people should find an empty place for that sort of games.) we decided to try an Japanese restaurant this day (I had seen some fun vids on YouTube from the Japanese restaurants here), we went to the one closest to the hotel and asked for a table, unfortunately we needed an reservation to be able to seat at the tables indoor were the entertainment were, you see that when seated at these tables the chefs will make the food right in front of you and dancing and doing all kinds of tricks for you. However we sat outside and could still look at the show, I ordered salmon, and I must say that it is one of the tastiest salmon dishes I have ever tasted.
We went to check out the “Norwegian Pub”, actually just because it is Norwegian, however it was a sucky place with the worst atmosphere I have ever seen at a pub, ok the service wasn’t too bad, but they should really think of doing some redesign of the place. Another place we tried out were the club “Grabarna Grus” An Scandinavian party club open in the early night (closing at 2 am, after that only clubs indoor or with less noise would be open.) At Grabarna Grus you would pay a little more than many other places for the beer, but it would be close to full each and every night with Swedish and Norwegians (and some Danish and Finnish would find their way there) This place had a worked trough atmosphere and fast service at the bars. We did try one of the late night clubs as well, “River Reggie” (We got free entrance tickets for this from a man selling tickets to the strip clubs, 40 Euros for 16 strip club tickets, 4 River Reggie tickets and some others, the strip clubs were not any good, but we got drinks and taxi included in the tickets)… River Reggie is an outdoor nightclub in the backyard of one of the hotels (I feel sorry for anyone wanting silence at night at this hotel) there is a large long pool going through the club were the drunk guests can take a swim, I think I used like 5 hours in the pool, we went home when the sun was starting to rise.
After we had tried both Greek and Japanese food we went to “Los Bandidos” to try out some Mexican food, I tried something named Chimichangas with rice, beans and salad – really tasty and well worth the 10 Euros. We also tried a Chinese restaurant one of the days, the food at the Chinese one was a little expensive, but not as expensive as the Japanese one, however after thinking about all the different food I tried I must say that my favorite was the Japanese and it was well worth the money.
We also visited the water park: “water world” however some of us were not too good to be able to have as much fun at this place as we could have had.
After 4 days the whole holyday went into oblivion, one after the other we became sick, however I have been lucky and have not been as sick as the others so I was able to have some fun the last days anyway. One of the things I did (only one of the others that travelled with me, came along for this one), was to go on an excursion to the highest mountain on Cyprus, Troodos. The highest spot of the mountain we went to was something like 1901 meters. We visited some towns on this trip which was really special in their own ways; one of them seemed really green and had much fauna within, almost like a garden within a more or less really dry island. (Actually at the top of the mountain the forest was ticker and the landscape didn’t seem as dry as at the coast.
As mentioned, we became sick. We managed to have some fun the last days, but most of the time we sat inside watching nrk or BBC. The final day was the worst for me, not because I was sick, but because I was the only one healthy enough to make the 450+ kilometers drive home from Gardermoen to Kristiansand, I think I did fall asleep a couple of times on the drive but thinks to the noisy markings in the road I was quickly waken. When we got home I had been awake for 24 hours, and there was still a few before I got to sleep. I called the public health centre and got the diagnose Swineflu for all 4 of us later that day. So I am keeping away from the school the first days so that I wouldn’t give it to more people there.
I have placed pictures around in this post, and some of them will also be available at DeviantArt.
